The first edition of this charming work concerning the various pieces of Regency furniture from 1795 to 1820. Written by M. Jourdain.A study of the Regency style of decorative arts, distinguished by its late Georgian treatment of classical revival architecture. Inspired by the neoclassical style, incorporating simple proportions and elements of Greek and Roman architecture. With chapters on the Egyptian revival, the Chinese taste, bookcases, library steps, mirrors, lighting, and bedroom furniture among others.Illustrated with one hundred and eighteen full page plates of illustrations. Collated, complete with all one hundred and seventy-three figures.From the library at Julian Park, Hertfordshire, belonging to Audrey Pleydell-Bouverie. Audrey was the youngest daughter of an Anglo-American lumber and steel millionaire, sister to Edward James, a key figure in the Surrealist movement, and the illegitimate granddaughter of King Edward VII. She was an English socialite included in The Book of BeautybyCecil Beaton. A patron of the arts, she assisted Viscount Carlow financially in the publication of limited editions of numerous works by leading literary figures such as T E Lawrence, James Joyce, Wyndham Lewis, and others. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally excellent with minor shelf wear only and a minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. Internally, firmly bound. With a minor faint spotting to the fore edge, affecting only the first and last few leaves and the occasional leaf, particularly those nearing leaves of plates. Otherwise, the pages are generally bright and clean. Illustrated with one hundred and eighteen full page plates of illustrations. Collated, complete with all one hundred and seventy-three figures.
