This book evolved out of his dissertation, and involves a careful examination of the rejection of consequentialist moral theories. Scheffler notably develops a view on which it is always permissible, but not always obligatory, to perform an action that produces the best overall outcome. An attractive copy of Scheffler's first book, uncommon in this condition.
