About this Item
A smartly bound first edition of this record of religious orders and congregations of the UK and Ireland. First edition. A source of reference about the religious communities of men and women which have houses in Great Britain and Ireland, arranged alphabetically. With a section for the orders and congregations of men and another for those of women. Written by Peter Frederick Anson, an English non-fiction writer on religious matters, architectural and maritime subjects. He spent time as an Anglican Benedictine monk before converting to Roman Catholicism. With the bookplates of William Alfred Westropp Foyle, a British bookseller and businessman who co-founded Foyles bookshop in 1903 with his brother Gilbert Foyle. Previously held in the library of Christopher Foyle, a British philanthropist and chairman of the famous Foyle's Bookshop in London. Bound in half red calf with red cloth boards. Externally, very smart with light rubbing to the extremities and fading to the spine. The odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout.
