About this Item
John Lane The Bodley Head. London. 1941. 318 pages. First UK edition, first printing. This book is the basis of the 1942 William Holden film by the same name. Book is tight. Binding and hinges are strong and sound. Endpapers are clean and bright; as are pages. Minor darkening to top page edges. Red cloth boards stamped in white on backstrip. Red cloth shows small area of mottling at base of spine that has not bled on to pages or endpapers. Rubbing to cloth at edge tips. Slightest, slightest ean (barely.) Original DJ with a partially price-clipped price as only 8s is present. Rare DJ shows a handful of open chips and soiling to rear. One of the original Hollywood 10, Trumbo was blacklisted as a result of his refusal to testify before the House of Un-American Activities Committee in October 1947. In 1956 Trumbo would win an Oscar using a pseudonym for the Brave One. Much of his success during this period was a result of his friendship with the King Kong of the Box Office at the time, Kirk Douglas, who fought to keep Trumbo working. An uncommon first UK edition, first printing in its original scarce DJ. VG-. Seller Inventory # 002850
