About this title

Synopsis

Delve into a rigorous defense of Scripture over human tradition.

This volume presents a sharp, case‑by‑case critique of Calvinism, arguing that the church’s authority rests with the sacred text rather than ecclesiastical or historical authorities. It contrasts the clarity and sufficiency of Scripture with the supposed insights of ancient writers, highlighting how later theologians can misinterpret or obscure the gospel.

In a measured, historically grounded style, the work examines how early Christian writers and later confessions relate to core doctrines such as grace, free will, and predestination. It questions how patristic authorities are cited in theological debates and emphasizes careful adherence to biblical teaching over tradition or philosophy. The author discusses the limits of external works in understanding Scripture and warns against elevating the fathers above God’s word.

• Compares Scripture to the “well of life” and urges readers to search the Bible rather than rely on human tradition.
• Examines the role of church authority, and when it should yield to the testimony of Scripture.
• Analyzes debates over grace, free will, and Pelagianism, distinguishing them from Calvinist views.
• Discusses how various historic confessions align on central Christian truths and what unites them.

Ideal for readers exploring how biblical authority shapes doctrine, and for those weighing the differences between Protestant confessions and historical critiques. This edition invites thoughtful reflection on how truth is discerned within the wider history of the church.
