Interwoven is the life story of Elizabeth Cady Stanton and descriptions of other key participants including Lucretia Mott and Frederick Douglass. Johnston also gives readers a sense of the convention's ties, which stretched backward in time to the Declaration of Independence and forward to the passage of the Nineteenth Amendment. Johnston shows respect for young readers by sorting out fact from supposition and, in the introductory note, acknowledging the difficulties of writing history from incomplete and somewhat unreliable sources.
