Quarto. Volume II only. 328 pages. Frontispiece portrait. Burgundy cloth hardcover with gilt stamped title on the spine. Volume 2 cloth binding is lighty rubbed with a few rubbed spots. Interior contents are very clean. Bookplate of Stephens Mitchell on the front paste down. Blind embossed stamp of "John Yancey Attorney at Law Candler Building Atlanta, Georgia" located bottom of the half title page. Howes L 567; De Renne III pp.1055-1066. Provenance from the estate of the Mitchell family in Atlanta, Georgia. Stephens Mitchell (1896-1983) was the son of Eugene Muse Mitchell and Isabel "Maybelle" (Stephens) Mitchell. He was born 1896 in Atlanta. His sister was Margaret Mitchell, author of Gone With the Wind. Stephens Mitchell attended the University of Georgia and was a prominent Atlanta attorney, historian, and devout Catholic. He also edited the Atlanta Historical Bulletin. After John Marsh, husband of Margaret, died in 1952 Stephens became the executor of Margaret Mitchell's estate. Stephens Mitchell died in 1983 and the estate was passed on to his two sons Eugene Muse Mitchell II and Joseph Mitchell. Seller Inventory # 28515
