First edition. Quarto. pp. vii, 289 [2]. With a final errata leaf. Professionally bound in modern period style mottled leather, gilt spine with red titling label, marbled endpapers. Small tear and pencil note on top margin of title page. The fore-edge is slightly singed, toning to the outer margins of the first approximately five leaves and final eight leaves, early two-inch paper repair to fore-edge of pp. 87-88 (without loss), two other small early paper repairs, very good. William Kilty served as an army surgeon during the Revolutionary war and was one of the founders of the Society of the Cincinnati. He entered the Maryland bar and began publication of his multi-volume *The Laws of Maryland* in 1799. He served as chief judge of the Washington circuit court, and became chancellor of Maryland in 1806. A scarce copy in a handsome period style binding by Livraria Castro e Silva. *Shaw & Shoemaker* 23158.
