1854 SECOND PRINTING of 1853 First Edition. Original dark maroon cloth with debossed decorations and borders front, rear and spine, gilt lettering spine. The book has clean covers, chipping at the ends of the spine, spine gilt lettering has dulled and turned brown, solid binding with original EPs, foxing on EPs and on several text pages (most are without foxing) and foxing on about 22 of the specimen plates that extends inside the images, and some mostly marginal foxing on the landscape/cultural plates with most of those images free of foxing. No restorations. COMPLETE with all plates and large folding map. The large folding map is in nice condition with one 6mm tear in margin area of one crease. We counted the plates several times and there are definitely 79 plates but the numbering and ordering is still jumbled. The book measures 233mm tall x 152mm and has 198 pages text followed by 79 plates (23 b/w and tinted landscape/cultural, 6 mammal, 5 bird (bird plate II not included as usual, or possibly the plate numbering skipped it since it never seems to be present), 21 reptile, 3 fish, 21 plant), large folding map.
