The local vicar brought the case under a law which forbade five or more to pray together other than according to the C of E Liturgy. It was here successfully appealed as heard before Lord Radnor, William Kent's horse had been seized on his refusal to pay, but he had bought it back at the auction, the money now refunded to him. Methodism had by this time gained a sure foothold in England and this case was surely an exceptional one, though it took long enough, it would appear, to argue it out.
