Apparent First Edition (NAP). From the 'Bulletin of The American Museum Of Natural History, Vol. XXXIX, Art. 1, pp. 1-384, New York, August 2, 1918.' This is a hard cover bound copy of the original very long article or paper. I purchased the book from the library of the late Dr. Stanley W. Bromley of Stamford, Connecticut, a well regarded entomologist. Dr. Bromley was a past president of the New York Entomological Society. He published his first paper 'Asilids and their prey' at the age of 13. The Asildae upon which he was an authority occupied a part of Dr. Bromley's attention for the remainder of his life, his last paper being a description of 32 new species. He had a number of his books personally bound for his collection. As you can see from the photos, the covers are in pretty nice condition. There is some fading of the red color off the top edge of the front and on the spine. The gilt lettering on the spine is still quite bright. There's a small dark stain on the rear cover. The covers are otherwise quite clean. The corners and edges are in excellent condition, no rubbing. There are a couple of small white spots on the top edge of the front cover. The book has a slight forward lean, but it is very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and tight covers. There are no binding issues. The inside covers and end papers have a light marbled pattern. On the half title page Dr. Bromley penciled his initials ('S.B.') in small letters. There is no other writing to be found anywhere else in the book. Nor are there any markings. Nor are there any attachments. The pages are in very decent condition. They are exceptionally clean. There is a vague semi- crease off the top corner of a good number of pages. You can only make it out from the rear side of the pages. It's not much of anything. There is a color frontispiece depicting different wasp species in 11 figures, also a color plate depicting 8 varieties of Synagris cornuta. There are also four full-page illustrations in black and white depicting a colony of Synagris cornuta, a nest of Synagris cornuta, a nest of Polybioides tabida, of Polybioides melaina, and of Belonogaster dubius (of course I know nothing about what I'm writing, presumably you do). The Index begins at page 351 and concludes at page 384. As I scrolled through its pages, I found a number of references to a wasp with the first name of 'hemorrhoidalis'. I'll end on that note.
