About this Item
[nice tight copy, moderate external wear, short diagonal crease at bottom right of front cover, modest age-toning to pages]. Mass Market PB (B&W photgraphs) Heavily photo-illustrated screenplay for Downey's underground feature, made on a $12,000 budget, which is described as "a rampage through New York City with our hero, his mother, their love affair, and Happiness, American Style." (Wikipedia: "Downey photographed most of the movie with a still 35mm camera and had the film processed at Walgreens drugstore. These pictures were animated alongside a few live-action scenes and almost all the dialogue was dubbed to rather hilarious effect.") The book features both a Foreword and a Backword by the filmmaker -- the latter a narrative in free-verse form of the production of the film, which includes this entry for an event that took place between the viewing of the first print and the second print: "Back to the editing room -- / Back to the hospital and where I see my son born." (That youngster of course being R.D. Jr. It's noted in the Foreword that Downey's wife Elsie -- who played all thirteen female roles in the film -- was pregnant throughout the filming.).
