Rubbing to boards and spine, with some bumping and light wear to corners of boards. Rubbing to spine ends with light wear to tail of spine. Small numbered tag tipped onto front free endpaper. A few small spots of foxing are scattered throughout text. Interior is clean and unmarked. Binding firm. Falsely attributed to George Coleman the Younger, 'The Rodiad' was most likely written by Richard Monckton Milnes. This pornographic work on flagellation was published by John Camden Hotten in 1871 under his Library Illustrative of Social Progress series, which he claimed were reprints of pornographic 18th and 19th century texts found in the library of the English historian Henry Thomas Buckle. This copy of The Rodiad is a copy of the extremely scarce original edition published by Hotten under the fictitious name of Cadell & Murray.
