Sm8vo. 8". Very good minus books in original boards and spine. First edition. Vol I: FFEP, blank, 14 (unpaginated) pages of ads and indications that one leaf was torn out; tp, ad (2), Contents, 11-290pp., ads (2). Vol II: (6), 7-247pp. Boards are soiled, stained, and written on, edges and corners are rubbed. Paper labels on spines are chipped but legible. Written numbers on spines and labels. A previous owner ("Mr. Scott Corwin") has written his name on the front paste-down and first page of ads of Vol I; and the FFEP and title page of Vol II. External edges and text pages are age-toned/darkened, smudge/soiled and foxed. There are some damp stains in the margins. Both inside gutters of Vol I are cracked and partially cracked in Vol II but all are holding. Many text page edges are chipped and with loss across the corners: The blank leaf after the FFEP of Vol I is missing 3 1/2" of the lower right fore-edge corner. Page 265-6 of Vol I has a similar but slightly small loss including several words of the last line on the page. Now in protective mylar.
