Hardcover. Condition: Fair. No Jacket. 1st Edition. * AS PICTURED - FIVE IMAGES * First and only Edition, printed for private circulation by jewellers Mappin & Webb. Tall 4to, (28cms x 22cms), quarter bound in calf against paper vellum over boards. Upper board elaborately decorated with gilt stamped image, including a peacock within Orientalism-inspired surrounds, with additional pale green elements. Title and date gilt blocked to leather spine. General grubbiness to the boards, and in particular to the back, which is plain paper vellum, rubbed and stained. Corners bumped, with inner card showing and starting to fray. The spine is in good order and presents well, having only minor rubbing head and tail, the gilt letters bright and clear. The gilt areas to front also shine brightly in the light. All edges gilt. Contents are in predominantly good order, complete and clean and with only occasional mild staining. One blank leaf following ffep stained at bottom leading corner, and loosening at binding. All 22 full-page plates (mostly colour) correct as called-for, in neat clean order with tissue guards, these printed with details - variously tanned, but complete and bright. 96pp. CONTENTS: (Chapters) I. Measures: 1 W x 8.5 D x 11.25 H inches. About the jeweler: Mappin & Webb (M&W) is an international jewelry company headquartered in England. Mappin & Webb traces its origins to a silver workshop founded in 1775; 247 years ago. It now has retail stores throughout the British Isles. Mappin & Webb has held Royal Warrants to British monarchs since 1897. The company's master craftsman Mark Appleby is the current Crown Jeweler of the United Kingdom. Mappin & Webb has created jewelry for royalty and high society; both in the United Kingdom, and internationally. Patrons have included Queen of France Marie-Antoinette, the Empress of Russia, and Princess Grace of Monaco. The company historically held Royal Warrants to both the Russian Empire and the Japanese Royal Household. Queen Victoria was the first British monarch to commission Mappin & Webb.
