Snugly bound and neat copy in the true 1st edition; worth noting that Appleton did not publish the book until 1924 at the earliest. Inscribed and signed by Gilbert on the front flyleaf and dated January 1924. Inscribed to Dr William Wolf of the Lancaster [PA] Travel Club, before whose members Gilbert delivered a lecture on matters described in the book. It appears that Gilbert's book was first published by this relatively small run publisher in 1923, and that his successful lecture circuit appearances drew the interest of the larger publishers such as Appleton, which subsequently published Gilbert's book in a number of printings in the late 1920's and early 1930's. Light green cloth with titles and ruling to boards in black. Mild ripple to cloth cover board. Trimmed front jacket flap laid in at front. Clipped newsprint review had been laid in at front with resulting offset toning to the front endleaves, including the are on which the author's signature appears.
