In all, this is a lovely first edition example of the 13th novel in Ellis Peters Brother Cadfael Chronicles. Ellis Peters is the pseudonym of British author Edith Pargeter, she is best known for her medieval detective series, the Brother Cadfael Chronicles. This series is a set of murder mystery novels set in 12th century England, during the Anarchy and they are centred around the protagonist, a Welsh Benedictine monk, Brother Cadfael, who aids the law by investigating and solving murders. In this novel he investigates a brutal murder that takes place with the intent of preventing the annual presentation of the white rose and the paying of the rose rent. This book would be a beautiful addition to any Peters or detective fiction collection.
