A beautiful little story written in 1925, before even The Hobbit, about a dog named Rover, turned into a toy dog by a wizard, and the ensuing adventures to find the wizard again. The story first came about while on a family holiday. His son Michael was upset about losing his toy dog on a beach, so Tolkien came up with the story to make him feel better. Tolkien even created illustrations for the story and attempted to have it published after The Hobbit, but it remained unpublished until long after his death. This is the first printing, published on the 5th of January 1998.

Unclipped dust jacket, tiny nick to the bottom edge, some very faint marks, otherwise tidy, dark green cloth effect covers with bright gilt title to spine, slight lean, securely bound. Pages a little age toned, but otherwise smart, no inscriptions. Very good condition.
