About the Author: Henry Pownall is a retired Circuit Judge. He was educated at Rugby and Trinity College, Cambridge, and is a member of the Orders and Medals Research Society. James Charles Risk has written a number of articles on British and foreign Orders, and in 1977 he was made a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order. David Stanley works for Sotheby's. In 1975 he was invited to assist in maintaining the collection of Orders and medals at Windsor Castle. John Tamplin has been a member of the Orders and Medals Research Society since 1949. He has written a number of publications and was also responsible for cataloguing the royal collection of specimen medals.
