Small 12mo. 4pp as fold over board. Slides into light black or green wallet as issued. Publisher's yellow card printed covers, red freeze around edges, black & yellow board inside. The 1st edition was designed by Peter Roget ( of Thesaurus fame ). 16 black + 16 red card chess pieces with draughtsmen on obverse, fitted into slots complete. Wallet : scuffs at corners else clean and complete. Board : faintest rubs corners, few faint darkening marks to covers, inner hinges firm but paper cracking at top and bottom else clean and unchipped. Pieces : handling marks, some darkening but complete. Complete and basically clean set. VG. Seller Inventory # 20136

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Illustrated covers. (illustrator). 5th or later Edition. Edition not stated, Nd. c. 1870's. Miniature travelling chess set complete with all pieces in a wallet style folder, piece slightly thumbed with use, all in publishers yellow and red glazed paper, very lightly rubbed and marked, else generally very good and bright, housed in cloth slipcase which is split and rubbed along edges with some damp marking and fraying.
