As a Roman Catholic, Hawarden was intended by James II to be tutor of divinity at Magdalen, but was forced by the revolution to leave". Thomas Meighan is "sometimes referred to as the father of Catholic booksellers in 18th century London, back when it was still hazardous to publish or even sell Catholic books in England, therefore most Catholic works appeared anonymously". The Library at Hawkesyard Priory was built in 1901-1902 & formed part of the Church & College buildings. In later years ownership of the site changed & the College buildings became Hawkesyard Priory Nursing Home. The Library was demolished around 2008 & the area redeveloped to make additional rooms in the Nursing Home."
