Publisher's original blue cloth with spine lettered and ruled in gilt, top edge trimmed, other edges rough cut, black end papers. Volume I with tissue guarded frontispiece and 13 maps and 46 illustrations, 40 page catalog at rear dated 10,000 7/02; Volume II with tissue guarded frontispiece and 10 maps and 29 illustrations. Scott 38; Whatmore NF5. London: Longmans, Green and Co. (1902), 584 and 623 pps. A Nearly Fine matching set with square and tight binding. Sun toned spines, scattered foxing. Vol I with 2" tear in cloth at top of rear joint, and fraying to crown of Vol. II. A true matching set with the same bookplate to the front paste down, and matching signatures dated 1902 and also 1947 in both volumes.
