Presumed first edition (no direct statement provided but with matching dates upon title and copyright pages). xii, 288 pages. Hardcover: H 23.25cm x L 15.5cm. Lacks dust jacket other than a trimmed flap text portion affixed to front free endpaper. Aquamarine cloth rubbed and stained; slight color fading to spine; slight flaking to otherwise still reasonably bright gilt stamping to front board and spine. Light toning to endpapers; sextant-themed personal bookplate of St. Louis physician, naval historian, and author E. Lee Dorsett (Edward Lee Dorsett, 1883-1967) on front pastedown; faint staining and/or slight rippling to early leaves and several rear pages from past moisture exposure but nothing obtrusive. Binding is firm.
