Octavo, three volumes, illustrated with several plates. Ex-library with the usual markings. In outwardly poor condition in contemporary marbled boards with sheep spines and corner tips. Boards mostly detached, with one missing, a few plates detached and laid-in, and moderate toning or foxing throughout. The contents otherwise reasonably clean and sound; certainly readable. Overall in fair to good condition. A scarce and well-regarded publication by this Philadelphia medical doctor and horticulturist, who is best known for his development of the first recipe for tomato ketchup (in 1812). As promised by the lengthy subtitle, this is a kind of general, science-based guide to domestic economy, with articles on how to heat large homes, various cooking methods and recipes, and also treatises on various emerging technologies (like steam engines), seemingly included here merely for the purpose of disseminating "useful knowledge." Scarce in commerce as a complete run.

Store description
As a small, independent bookseller in Cleveland, Ohio, I deal in general used, rare, and antiquarian books, autographs, manuscripts, pamphlets, and personal and family papers in all subjects. My family has been in the antiquarian book business since 1971. Are you moving, downsizing, or doing some spring cleaning? Did you inherit or otherwise come into some old books? Or, maybe you've collected modern novels from the last thirty or fifty years. No matter what kinds of books you have, we'd love to take a look at them! We travel throughout Ohio, western Pennsylvania and New York, southern Michigan, and eastern Indiana, and will travel farther in some cases to look at whole libraries or even just a few particularly interesting books. Give us a call at (216) 352-3940 and we can talk more about the kinds of books you have.…
