Item description from seller

Ex-institutional copy. First edition. Paged as i-viii, v-lxxxiv, 1-600 (matching LoC and Harvard copies). Hardcover: H 22.25cm x L 14.25cm. Rebound in early to mid-twentieth century dark blue cloth; fraying to spine head and along front board's top edge; small surface chip near front joint heel; original title label with shallow top edge wear and moderately dulled gilt lettering affixed to upper spine. Front and rear endpapers replaced too with title leaf immediately opposite new ffep verso; front pastedown has O'Casey family Mississippi and Ireland genealogical-themed bookplate. Oval ink stamp "Biblioteca Coll. | SS Petri et Pauli | Prior Park" upon title page but with no other institutional marks readily apparent upon a cursory perusal; pencil writing on page lxxxiv with pencil marks and marginalia amongst text; extensive handwritten notes in older ink on both rectos and versos of two rear flyleaves (both being the book's original paper and deemed worthy of retention by rebinder) - pencil and ink writing quite undoubtedly by the same hand (but certainly predates Dr. Casey's acquisition as much of his impressive book collection was amassed between 1940-1970). Some toning to interior leaves but otherwise mostly clean. Text block's toned top edge soiled and stained; fore-edge and bottom edge toned. Binding is firm. British Neoplatonist Thomas Taylor (1758-1835) was the first to compile a complete English translation of the complete works of Aristotle and of Plato. Acquired from the estate of Birmingham, Alabama pathologist, bibliophile, and genealogist Dr. Albert Eugene Casey (1903-1982) who served as director of laboratories at Birmingham Baptist Hospitals from 1942-1972.
