A very scarce original uncorrected proof copy of the true first edition of Angela Carter's first novel - published in 1966. An American edition following later that year, but under the alternative title "Honeybuzzard", which is a name of one of the character's in the book. ***Very good in green and white Heinemann 'house-style' thin card covers, which are inevitably slightly rubbed and discoloured from age and handling. The edges of the covers are slightly creased and rubbed, and there are light reading creases and some rubbing to the fragile spine, but which is intact. There is a slight reading lean to the paperback binding, and the covers are slightly discoloured (being a white background). Small creases to the bottom corners of the covers. Top edge of text-block foxed. A very few foxing marks to the outer edge of the back cover, and to the bottom edge of the page block. One very light foxing mark to the back of the front cover. Internally also very good, with no ownership markings - just few very light unobtrusive foxing marks to the outer margins of the last couple of text pages, and one to the half-title page, otherwise the interior pages are clean. Spine tight. No inscriptions. ***185 pages. 198 mm x 134 mm. ***"I've read this book with admiration, horror, and other relevant emotions, including gratitude that we seem to have here a very distinctive talent that's going to be a major one. Angela Carter has remarkable descriptive gifts, a powerful imagination and - what I admire and envy more than anything - a capacity for looking at the mess of contemporary life totally without flinching." [The quote by Anthony Burgess, taken from the front cover of the published first edition] ***A very scarce uncorrected proof copy of the true first edition of Angela Carter's first published novel. One of very few copies that are likely to remain in existence. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. Seller Inventory # 6792a
