Drake, 1929. Elaborately decorated board with silhouette of a sign painter. Quarto. Good+, front endpaper missing. A bright copy. Minor notes in margin of first few pages. Frank H. Atkinson was a sign painter from the ART NOUVEAU era, who lived in Chicago and worked mostly for Cadillac. His books influenced hand lettering and sign painting for many years. A number of digital fonts are based on his designs. Leon E. Larson collection of show and sign painting techniques, his signature on inside front board. Illustrated with figures 1 to 103 are each one sided only with the reverse blank, 104 to 121 are double printed with multiple illustrations. Bound in green cloth boards with titles present to the spine and front board. Boards have shelf-wear present to the extremities (boards are sunned and faded along the spine). Previous owner's name stamped to the FFEP. Text is clean and free of marks. Binding tight and solid. The introduction describes its intent as presenting "all that can be desired in the way of practical method execution and design, relative to the art as applied and practiced in every-day work in show card shops or studios and department stores.
