George Allen & Unwin, Ltd., London, UK, 1977. A Fine book in Near Fine dust jacket. A lovey copy of this TRUE First Edition/First Impression. No markings of any kind. The jacket has a touch of edge wear, with small closed tear to copy of spine, light rubbing else Near Fine. The foldout map between the rear board and the rear endpaper is present and in Near Fine condition (no wrong folds and one small tear on the inside edge where it is glued to the endpaper, no loss - see photo). Otherwise a lovely collectible copy. The unpriced export edition preceded the (priced) domestic edition and contains all first impression points required by Hammond and Anderson (A15), especially misprints on pages 330 and 352 that were corrected in a later impression or impressions. The True 1st Edition includes the following points: (1) no price on jacket; (2) printed by William Clowes on copyright; (3) no period after Feanor on p.330, line 4; (4) the word "and" between "Lord of Waters and King of the Sea" is in italics on p.352, line 39. ALL POINTS PRESENT IN THIS COPY. Includes a number of shorter works besides The Silmarillion, Genealogies, The Sundering of the Elves, Note on Pronunciation, Index of Names, Appendix, Elements in Quenya and Sindarin names plus a color map of the Realms of the Noldor and the Sindar. Guy Gavriel Kay spent a year editing this book at the request of Christopher Tolkien.
