About this Item
Octavo, pp. [1-3] 4-80, pictorial wrappers. First edition. Twenty-eighth century Earth is an authoritarian dystopia controlled by Earth's last criminal, a super scientist who was exiled by the World Federation (he was shot into space in a coffin ship) but has escaped to the Moon from which, with the help his puppet henchman on Earth, he has hypnotized all the people of Earth and has forced them to construct a network of planet-wide temples (where Ijax, the people's mentor dwells) and canals. The latter he plans to fill with moondust (a super metal) and ignite when the Moon is in the proper position for its lunar rays to interact with the reservoir of moondust in the Grand Tower. The explosions will blow the Earth to pieces and he will have his revenge upon the Federation. But a man suspended in time by a criminous scientist in 1946, revived in 2746 A.D by a Federation scientist, foils the exiled scientist's mad scheme, saves the planet, and becomes its ruler. The novel's opening sequence is based on "Prisoner of Time," published in SUPER SCIENCE STORIES, May 1943 under his pen name Polton Cross. Reginald 05272. Touch of wear at head and tail of spine panel, several faint creases to front cover, text block lightly age-darkened, bookstore stamp on title page, a very good copy. (#66712).
