These latter consist of 'Sunburnt Girls on the Rocks', a symphonic tribute to he people and countryside of Norway, and 'Invention for Four Voices', a conversation piece which wittily embraces most things in heaven and earth. The title-story, 'A Sociable Plover', tells of a ghostly bird-haunting in the Western Isles; 'Escape Forever' is a gay and exciting tale of a convict's escape across Scotland and 'The Masks of Purpose' retells with brilliant immediacy of detail and grisly story of the massacre of Glencoe. The whole book illustrates once again Eric Linklater's mastery of many moods and scenes. ***The book is decorated with five new wood-engravings by Reynolds Stone.' (Quote from inside front of dustwrapper blurb). First impression of the true first edition in its original dustwrapper in very nice collectable condition. Of interest to collectors of Eric Linklater and the wood-engravings of Reynolds Stone. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. Seller Inventory # 3756
