SOCIAL EQUALITY: A Short Study in a Missing Science (rare, good to very good 1st edition hardback)

Published by Richard Bentley and Son, New Burlington Street London in 1882, here is the incredibly scarce first hardback printing of W.H.Mallock's SOCIAL EQUALITY: A Short Study in a Missing Science. Brown buckram binding, gilt lettering, 274 pages, (some uncut), the book is in good condition with some minor shelf wear/ rubbing/ finger marking to the boards and spine, plus some spotting/ staining to the end papers and minor spotting to the outside page edges and a few rogue spots throughout. There is also the name of two previous owners at the front of the book (one in ink to the rear of the front free end paper), plus that of revered Oxford scholar Anthony Cockshut written lightly in pencil on the facing page. Anthony has also made one or two pencil marks in the borders. All in all an absolute stonker of a book.
