Binding worn at edges and along outer joints, half title leaf missing, a good copy in very good pictorial dust jacket (designed by MacDonald Gill) with light wear at edges and several internal mends with brown paper tape. Octavo, pp. publisher's purple pebbled cloth, stamped in black and blind. First edition. This binding has been termed a later binding by some, but if so, it is definitely not much later than the copies bound in gold-stamped black cloth. This copy in the purple cloth binding is signed and dated 1937 on the front free endpaper by Margery Lawrence (1889-1969), a British writer of romance, detective and fantasy fiction, best known for her ghost stories.
