About this Item

First edition of this infamous poetic hoax directed at the experimental "isms" championed by Ezra Pound inscribed by Witter Bynner to Karl Shapiro. Shapiro served as Poet Laureate at the Library of Congress, the same entity which administers the Witter Bynner Prize, given each year to two poets selected by the current Poet Laureate. A satire directed at Imagism & Vorticism, invented and championed by Ezra Pound from 1912-1915, SPECTRA instead was mistaken as that which is was attempting to mock: a new verse movement. Small 8vo. Original printed boards. Covers rubbed with some damping. Internally near fine with damping only faintly continuing to first few leaves. INSCRIBED by Witter Bynner to Karl Shapiro: "Emanuel Morgan / has asked me to / send Karl Shapiro / this stray copy / of Spectra which / has turned up / in my house. / So here it goes, / with greetings / from / Witter Bynner / Santa Fe / March 11 / 1953.".
