A SPINNER IN THE SUN

Best known today for her 1902 novel, "Lavender and Old Lace," this work, published in 1906, was her tenth. Ironically, the opening scene features a woman contemplating suicide as she returns to her childhood home after 25 years away. In another five years Reed, herself, commited suicide. First edition, printing unknown. About 5 1/4 x 8 18 inches, 393 pages in white cloth boards with gold graphic and lettering on front cover and spine. Sorry, no dustjacket. After more than a century, the covers show minor wear and soiling, and the text edges are soiled though the gilded top edge is basically undamaged. The text itself is clean, without underlining or other markings. Reed was a versatile author, besides her novels, she also wrote and published a series of cookbooks under the pseudonymn, Olive Green.
