Several publications have in recent years been devoted to the history and operations of Ribble Motor Services Ltd, and these have mentioned in passing that the company purchased and continued as a subsidiary the Blackpool-based operator W.C. Standerwick Ltd. This company was a substantial coaching company in its own right, and was a pioneer of motor coaching and also in the introduction in 1927 of long-distance expresses. The important contribution made by this subsidiary of Ribble to the development of road transport has not to date been fully acknowledged, and to remedy this omission and to record a further aspect of Ribble's activities - this volume has been produced.
