Just a few dings around the extremities, wrappers clean and bright, corners square and flat, else near fine to fine with no internal markings. "Over the past three years, traveling around the country giving graduate level seminars to American acupuncturists and practitioners of Chinese medicine, I have become acutely aware of the general lack of clarity in American practitioners concerning the methodology of our profession. For me, one of the greatest values of Chinese medicine is its time-tested methodology. To a large extent, this methodology is based on the logic inherent in the Chinese language. In Chinese, Chinese medicine is extremely clear and logical. However, in translation, this logic and clarity are often lost. Often the immediately perceived connections between two Chinese words do not carry over to the two (or more) English words chosen to translate them. Nigel Wiseman and Andrew Ellis, also aware of this problem, have attempted to rectify it by creating a standard English vocabulary which hews as closely as possible to the Chinese in their Fundamentals of Chinese Medicine. Although many may feel uncomfortable, as I myself do, with some of their neologisms, their endeavor correctly addresses the main problem with the teaching and practice of Chinese medicine in the United States today." [from the Introduction] "Bob Flaws, DOM, it is an internationally known practitioner of and author on traditional Chinese medicine. He has written, translated, and edited over a dozen books of various aspects of oriental medicine and numerous articles by Dr. Flaws have appeared in professional journals both in America and abroad. In addition, Dr. Flaws regularly lectures at many of the major American colleges of acupuncture and Oriental medicine and has been an invited speaker at several national and international medical conferences. His other credits include soundingBlue Poppy Press. Dr. Flaws originally studied acupuncture with Dr. Tao Xi-yu and at the Shanghais College of Traditional Chinese Medicine where he also studied Chinese herbal medicine and Tuina Chinese remedial massage. Since 1980, Dr. Flaws has conducted a private practice in traditional Chinese medicine in boulder, Co." [from About the Author] This is a welcome treatment of the methodology of acupuncture by an expert in the field. NOTE: This is the original First Edition published in September 1989 per the copyright page and not the 1990 edition.…
