About this Item
THIS unusual booklet, dated 1941, appears to be hand-assembled from hand-typed, hand-colored, print, mirrors the 1940 published edition by Robert M. Gay (without any preface or index). The book gathers quotations from various famous authors to illustrate how punctuation works in real writing. While THIS booklet is NOT the complete text of the 1940 printed book, the numbered pages included have HAND-INKED punctuation marks (see photos). Spacing of page titles shifts from left to right / right to left on several pages. Pages 1, 2, 3 (spelling error/correction), 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11 (title punctuation shift) , 9 (out of sequence, title punctuation shift), 12, 13 (title punctuation shift), 14, 15 (title punctuation shift), 16, 17 (title punctuation shift), 18, 19, 20, 21, are included in this hand-bound and neatly stapled booklet. The spacing of words, and hyphenation, differ from the original, possibly indicating this was to be part of the REVISED edition of STOPS from Middlebury College Press (second printing was also dated 1941). The imprint of the Bread Loaf press began in 1920 with the creation of the Bread Loaf School of English, until the 1960s, when the original presses were removed. As this volume was sourced from the collection of Harry Nash, Jr (former co-owner of DoraLynn Books, in Madeira Beach, FL), we believe it is an authentic, one-off, possible partial uncorrected proof, from Middlebury Press. Bread Loaf is an unincorporated community within the town of Ripton in Addison County, Vermont, USA. Softcover edition. 20 pages. Dimensions: 8" by 10.5".
