"The Bagh o Bahar, or Stories of the Four Darweshes, is a book much read by students of Hindustani. When I had finished reading the book, it was suggested to me by a friend, that I should make an abstract of each story. I did so." [from the Preface by Edith F. Parry] "The tales of the Four Travelers known as the Bagh o Bahar have been condensed into the compass of eight short pages of simple but graphic prose by a lady whose studies have led her into an unusual field. The difficulties of Urdu are not inconsiderable, and added to the intricate complications of Oriental story-telling, closely interwoven yet severally distinct, a clear and readable synopsis of these narratives is not an easy task. In this instance it has been accomplished with skill [and] it is evident that a knowledge of the language, as well as of the subject, is the key to its success." [from an introductory note by H.S. Jarrett] Per the Translator's Preface, the translator was Mi Amman. The owner of this book, Mary Lemoreaux Burnell lived in Arcadia, CA, and was the wife of George Edwin Burnell. Both she and her husband lectured on metaphysical subjects. Bagh o Bahar may be translated as "The Garden and Spring" per the translator's final word. Seller Inventory # 007865
