Reddish-brown cloth with gilt sp. lettering, clean and unworn, thin strip of fading bottom sp. F/piece portrait of Cecil Rhodes (not tipped in as in 2nd more lavish edition)+ xvii + 344, 68 photo-plates and one col. plate with tissue guard, all ex-pagination; faint tanning to fr. end-paper off-set from jacket, tiny sig. top corner same and a few other very faint marks along top edge, very faint hint of edge-tanning throughout, otherwise clean and unmarked. Unclipped jacket in protective sleeve as acquired, all edges tanned to some depth, spine heavily tanned with a couple of small round marks, lettering barely legible and thin chip across bottom edge.
