Very attractive blind-stamped cloth with gilt lettering and decoration front, back and paneled sp., rear cover has 'Permanent Capital of Great Britain' to centre, spine however has 2 cm loss to top and has been very professionally relaid, a little trivial edge-rubbing. x + Preface paginated iv to verso + 5-240, this obviously pagination error as no indication of lost leaves after p.x; inscribed to fr. end-paper 'To Mr Shepherd with MrA. Watt's compliments' nicely written with a couple of calligraphic squiggles, but definitely an A. rather than R. initial so perhaps from relative rather than the author himself, black and gilt borders to paste-downs and all edges gilt, no significant internal faults, very thin split to centre fr. gutter and few small marks to end-papers and paste-downs of little consequence. Despite relaid spine this still rates nearly Fine in my judgement but some may differ. Covers a curiously wide range of subjects including education, trade, revolutionary movement, Scottish law of entail and the Ordnance Survey among much else. Scarce. 11.5 cm x 18 cm.
