This Act provided formal consent to the Treaty signed on 24 February 1841 between Great Britain and the Mexican Republic by which the slave trade was declared to be totally and perpetually abolished in all parts of the world. The Mexican government was to formally declare that anyone engaged in the slave trade would be considered pirates. The Treaty, consisting of fifteen Articles, is reproduced in the Act on pages 477-482, together with two additional Articles on page 483, Annex A (being three additional Articles on instructions for ships of the British and Mexican navies employed to prevent the traffic in slaves) on pages 483-485, Annex B (being seven additional Articles on regulations for the courts in relation to detained vessels) on pages 485-488, Annex C (being five additional Articles relating to the treatment of liberated Negroes) on pages 488-489, and twenty-one additional Clauses on pages 489-494.
