True first British printing with original unclipped jacket (�12.95). Jacket has patchy edge/shelf wear, a few small marks/minor foxing/little dustiness to reverse (white side), little fading to spine, one very small (approx. 3mms) tear/bump to front upper corner, the odd small mark, little pushing/rubbing to head/tail of spine and to corners and minor creasing/little dustiness to front/back inner flaps. Boards are near fine with a hint of pushing to corners and minor pushing/rubbing to head/tail of spine. Pages are generally clean and the binding is tight. Odd small mark/spots of foxing inside front/back boards and to end-papers. Pages slightly tanned. Very occasional small mark to pages. No other faults. All books described honestly and accurately. Synopsis

Cecil Lewis joined the RAF during WW I when he was 17. After ten hours of instruction he went overseas. He flew combat missions until the war ended, then went off to Peking to teach the Chinese to fly. Out of his adventures he found the material for a great classic of aviation and war, SAGITTARIUS RISING. His writing skills took him to Hollywood where he won an Oscar for the screenplay of Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion. When he returned to England, WW II was brewing. Lewis rejoined the RAF as an instructor. He taught a new generation to fly, then went on to posts in Sicily and Greece. His recollection of these times, reflected in letters home to his wife, were published in 1991.
