Written by Captain Victor Leslie Making. This informative autobiographical work presents the author's life spent on various ships at sea from the age of fifteen up until his time as Captain of the SS Pennland, a transatlantic ocean liner that was launched in 1920. Making provides an insight into life at sea between 1902 and 1927, with chapters on the bad weather they endured, the camaraderie, the effect of the First World War and the various destinations visited. Illustrated with four plates, five vignettes and five sketch-maps. Collated, complete. Bound in the publisher's original cloth. Externally, sound, with light bumping to the extremities and light soling to the boards. Discolouration to the board extremities and to the spine, with spotting to the spine.
