A good hardback first edition, nicely rebound in a modern half morocco binding. Five raised bands to the spine along with gilt title lettering and the date of publication in gilt at the tail of the spine. New endpapers (marbled and plain). 744 numbered pages. The leather spine of this substantial volume is lightly marked and a little sunned, and there are two small ink blemishes on the fore edge. There is some foxing to the opening and closing pages (including the half title and title pages), and lighter scattered foxing throughout. The name 'MATT B WALKER' has been stamped at the top of the title page; there is a knot called Matthew Walker (see page 474), but I have no idea whether or not there is a connection between a previous owner of this book and the knot. Overall, a handsome copy in modern half leather, the hinges and joints sound and secure, but with some foxing to the contents. Seller Inventory # ABE-1660301621090
