Fiction includes most notably parts 1, 2 & 4 through 7 of 7 of Double for Death, a Tecumseh Fox mystery by Rex Stout. Other fiction includes A Salmon for the White House, a short story by Arthur Train (8/19), Don't Sell it, Mr Rumbin, a short story by Booth Tarkington (9/16), Henry and the Gold Mine, a short story by Stephen Vincent Benet (9/23), and part 1 of 7 of Don't Ask Questions, a novel by J P Marquand (9/30). Some of the issues contain ads featuring the 1939 NY World's Fair and the Wizard of Oz movie starring Judy Garland. Cover art by Frances Tipton Hunter (8/19 - Penny Candy & 9/16 - Growing Boy), Charles E. Kerlee (8/26 - Bicycling Beauty), McCauley Conner (9/9 - Bus Fare), Crosby DeMoss (9/23 - Hitchhiking to State U), & Monte Crews (9/30 - First in Line for Tickets). Condition issues include: 8/19 - Light wear at the edges; 8/26 - light browning along the spine of the front cover, a couple of light brown stains along the spine of page 13/14, light soiling & edge wear to the back cover; 9/9 - a few small soil spots along the spine of the front cover; 9/16 - light soiling along the edges of the front cover; 9/23 - a light soil spot to the upper right of the front cover; and 9/30 - a 1.75" x .5" scrape at the lower left of the front cover that has a .75" x .25" hole in the center of it, a small chip at the bottom of page 91/92 toward the spine. A very good set with a nice run of Rex Stout serial installments. A heavy, oversize lot that will require additional postage.
