The Scarlatti Inheritance. A novel.

First UK Edition (first printing) of the author's first book, issued the same year as the US edition. 8vo. 358pp. Light grey boards lettered and ruled in black at the spine. A light but lengthy crease to the backstrip, and a homemade former owner name plate pasted to the head of the front free endpaper. A very good copy in good non-price-clipped dust wrapper, which is slightly toned, nicked and creased. A thriller in-part set in Washington, DC during the Second World War. Noted James Bond producer Albert R.Broccoli swiftly purchased the film rights and asked Ludlum to pen a screenplay, but the author, who already had some film and theatre experience, refused, noting "I didn't leave that crowd of ocelots to go back into it".
