In the original green pictorial boards with gilt and black titling/decoration to the spine. Gilt blocked title and illustrations/black decoration to the front cover - some light patching, particularly to the rear board, and the gilt is slightly dulled, but overall presents quite well. All Edges Gilt. Outer hinges tight. Internally there are Individual Title pages to each story, but NO date shown on any. There is a Prize label on the front pastedown - dated 1878 - but the '8' has been added in ink to a standard plate dated 187. So the book could be 1878 - but my research has given this book as published in 1873. So this is either a FIRST or an Early issue. The book looks as if the inner front/rear hinges have been re-glued at some point, but all holding well. NO Inscriptions or other marks. Plain cream endpapers, with some offsetting from the Prize label to the ffep. The book is prefaced with 2 full page, lovely clean, tissue guarded, colour plates by FSW, printed by E (dmund) Evans. The FOUR short stories in this book are The School Friends or Nothing New - 48pp. The Ivory Trader - 48 pp. The Brothers - 48 pp. Plus Alone on an Island - 47 pp. RARE Kingston title. See Images ; 16mo 6" - 7" tall. Seller Inventory # 119875
