12mo, pp xiv, [10], 192, with engraved frontispiece portrait of the author, folding table, bound in contemporary sheep, upper board wormed to surface leather in places, internally with pen trials to endpapers and title page, else generally clean and sound, NEW EDITION; though famously one of the more popular mathematical primers of the 18th Century, this is a title which survives in few complete copies such as this one; indeed it is unusual to find an example with both portrait and folding chart intact. This is the supposed first Gainsborough printing, the London part of the imprint fictitious; all are rare - ESTC records 3 copies UK and 2 USA. Seller Inventory # 29232
