"Scotland Yet" and Other Verses

1898. First edition thus (Centenary edition). viii, 207pp., a frontispiece portrait and 10 black and white illustrations. Henry Scott Riddell (1798-1870) was a Scottish Borders poet and songwriter. His best known work is probably "Scotland Yet", one of the most popular of Scottish songs. This collection of his poems was published to mark the centenary of his birth, and includes a memoir by W.S. Crockett. The book is bound in the original blue cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with shelf wear and some soiling on the boards and noticeable white damp spotting or staining on the front board. The spine ends are bumped with a split of about 1/4" in the cloth at the bottom of the spine and damage with a little loss to the cloth at the top of the spine. The contents are tight and clean apart from a few light marks from finger smudges, etc., and a little scattered light foxing. The front endpapers have a thin split down the spine gutter and a name has been written on the front free endpaper.
