First edition hard back binding in publisher's original navy cloth covers, gilt stamped title lettering and floral motif decorations to the front cover, embossed rear cover, rebacked, all page edges gilt. 8vo. 7½'' x 5½''. Contains colour frontispiece, additional colour illustrated title, (iv), 62 pp + 8 pp publisher's catalogue dated 1858 with 30 full-page single-sided chromolithographic colour plates to every other page. Rubbing to the corners, remains of tissue and adhesive in the gutter between the frontispiece and colour title, small areas of old dry adhesive to the gutters of two plates. The colour title is the only plate with any attribution of the illustrator - A. F. Lydon. Scarce. Member of the P.B.F.A. ORNITHOLOGY.
